ASL 4100- Advanced Deaf History
Taught in ASL. Covered major events in the history of ASL and the international deaf experience, beginning with the Ancient Greeks, Romans, and Hebrews, and continuing to modern day. Focused on how societal, political, and social events influenced the deaf community, culture, and the development of ASL as a recognized language.
ASL 4050- Advanced Deaf Culture
Taught in ASL. Covered topics both unique to the deaf community and similar to hearing people’s experiences. Explored a plethora of communities within the deaf community and how governmental and societal influence have impacted how deaf culture has flourished. Exposed students to the arts, humanities, sciences, and businesses that deaf people have created.
ASL 4350- Ethics in ASL Community
In progress. Taught in ASL. Covers major ethical issues in society with a perspective focused on how it may impact the deaf community specifically.
